Friday Fun.

Soon enough, we will be flying high in these skies, but above the trees hopefully! This will be our first trip with the little Finster. "Am I nervous?", you may ask and the answer is "yes". I'm not as nervous as I was a few weeks ago, but you never know how things could go. Any advice from all you mommies out there who've flown with a child under three months? Any & all advice would be much appreciated!

Here's what I hear in advice:
  • Nurse during take-off and landing
  • Bringing the Baby Bjorn & Boppy pillow for sleeping comfort
  • Load up on lots of diapers & wipes & extra outfits
  • Call the airline ahead of time to let them know we are flying with an infant
Any thing else or anything I should scratch?

I'll leave you with this greeting from my darling boy:

lauren & finn

Don't let Lyle get away with pretending not to know you! Ha!

I have never been as nervous before a flight as I was this week when I flew from Charlotte to Seattle and back with Declan... and I have spent thousands and thousands of hours in an airplane! But it went a lot smoother than I expected. It will help a TON that Lyle will be with you. I was in the middle seat between two strangers both ways, and was fortunate to have a friendly mom next to me one way. I had the travel Boppy and it was great - it's not as rigid as the regular Boppy, and it zips up and has a strap. Definitely worth $37. I nursed Dex on the climb on both flights, but he was sleeping on the descents and I didn't wake him. He didn't have any problems with his ears. I brought tons of diapers and extra outfits, but didn't end up changing him on the plane (but I did right before boarding and as soon as we deplaned. We got lucky with no blowouts!) When I checked in at the kiosk, it asked if there was an infant traveling with me, and I entered his name and birthdate info then. For the flight, I packed some finger puppets, a book, etc to entertain him, but he was so overstimulated by everything around us that I didn't even get them out of the bag (which, by the way, was impossible to access under the seat in front of me since I was holding Declan and was in a middle seat!). All in all, it wasn't too bad. And since you and Lyle will be together, it will be fine! Oh, one more thing -I think a pacifier can help to clear their ears too if you aren't feeding - Dex had his paci for most of the flight.
Hope this helps! Have a great trip. Can't wait to see Finn again (and you and Lyle too)!

Make sure you have a pacifier with clip on him (don't want to try to pick it up off the ground), one of the Anis swaddles to give you some privacy when you're nursing, and maybe an extra shirt for yourself. Oh, and make the wipes accessible to if you get spit up on, you're not bending over to try to get at them. If you have a click-n-go stroller, bring it to the gate so you don't have to cary all your stuff. Most importantly, leave more time than Lyle thinks is reasonable to get through security - it's a whole other experience trying to load and unload everything with munchkins!
