This past weekend the Jackson family had a little gettaway! Yay! Lyle was in Atlanta for a conference, so Finn & I decided to drive down after work on Friday and join him for a couple of nights. It was so nice to get away and have a change of scenery without the normal everyday distractions of home life.
Friday night we arrived and L was still out getting wined & dined. But that was alright cause the Finnster needed to head to bed anyway. We quickly got him dressed to sleep, then headed downstairs to grab mommy a glass of wine at the bar where Finn of course got plenty of attention from others, then headed back up to get him to bed in the Pack n Play. I thought it was going to be more difficult than it really was. I just hid out in the bathroom with some magazines and my wine for a bit before crawling into the super comfy bed to relax. It worked like a charm!
Saturday morning we just hung out lounging around taking our time. Lyle snuck food up to the room for me which was absolutely delicious. Then we headed into town for a bit for a delicious mocha & some "looking" at the several Lululemon shops in town. I was very much tempted (I've had my eye on a few pairs of pants), but was very good and walked out empty handed both times! We even headed to the big mall in town briefly (oh my---so crowded I couldn't get out fast enough!), with no purchases made! Can you tell I'm trying really hard to show that we can make it with me only working 2 days a week?
After Lyle/Dad was finished with his conference we met up with him & the guys at the infamous Varsity. It's been on the Food Network for the "Best I Ever Had" show. I will admit it was some good grease. You can see below just how excited Finn is getting over it. We just shared a taste thinking we'd grab a real dinner later. Did we? NO! What sounded so nice to me was going for a walk in the park then heading back to our comfy hotel room with a King sized bed, lounging with the kiddo and drinking a bottle of wine. And that's what we did. Such good family time that was much needed.
And we hung out in the bathroom again while Finnie Minnie fell asleep. This time with an entire bottle of wine and some strawberries that we picked up at the local Trader Joe's. Such a great weekend. We topped it off the next morning with breakfast at the West Egg :delicious!: and then met up at some friends once we got back to town to "watch some football": code for hanging out and eating some more.
I was laughing at myself over the weekend for driving all the way to Atlanta (2.5 hours) to really just hang out in the hotel room. I'd never been to Atlanta before and I know there's plenty to do there, but that's what seemed most appealing to me! A change of scenery and time with Finn without the household distractions. And I even got great quality time with Lyle. It's amazing how the quality of quality time just lounging around increases when we don't have our laptops.
I think we are going to have to join him more often on the conferences. Fortunately for us he has several this year.
What you all do over the weekend?
